HP's iPaq Line Lives with the Glisten

HP's corporate-themed iPAQ smartphones have been pretty solid over the years. Now the company has unveiled the iPAQ Glisten, a fully updated model that will be available subsidized on AT&T--unlike the unlocked HP iPAQ 910 we reviewed last year.

Like that iPAQ 910, the HP iPAQ Glisten is your standard black QWERTY slab. HP distinguishes the Glisten, however, with a vibrant AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) touch screen--a first for AT&T smartphones.

The Glisten features Windows Mobile 6.5, Wi-Fi, GPS, and access to Windows Marketplace for Mobile. In addition, there's a 3.1-megapixel camera, and AT&T throws in its free Wi-Fi Hotspot access for more than 20,000 locations.

The iPAQ Glisten will land "in the coming weeks" for $229.99 with a two-year agreement and after rebates. It will be available through HP corporate sales, AT&T business services, and AT&T and HP SMB Web sites, as well as third-party e-commerce sites.

LG, AT&T Announce 1-GHz Projector Phone

Here's a whole bunch of firsts for the U.S.: LG today announced the Expo, a Windows Mobile 6.5-based smartphone with a built-in fingerprint sensor and optional pico-projector powered by a Qualcomm 1-GHz processor that I assume is their Snapdragon chipset, though LG doesn't say. 
Without the projector, the Expo is a reasonably sized slider smartphone at 4.5 inches by 2.24 inches by 0.65 inches. It has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 5-megapixel camera, a 3.2-inch, 800-by-480 screen, Wi-Fi, HSDPA 7.2, and a giant honking 1500 mAh battery.
According to LG's Web site, the projector is an optional, add-on accessory that will be sold separately. It weighs 1.8 ounces and projects an image eight feet, according to a statement from AT&T. 

The phone will be available for $299.99 (minus a $100 mail-in rebate) with a new, two-year agreement. The projector attachment will be available "in the coming weeks" for $179.99, according to AT&T. 

The phone also has GPS, Bluetooth, an accelerometer, a proximity sensor, and an FM radio on board. 

The phone's manual explains that it runs LG's S-Class user interface, a creative hack of Windows Mobile 6.5 which heavily uses rotating wheels of icons. This will be the first LG S-Class phone in the US, along with the first Snapdragon phone sold be a US carrier and the first projector phone in the US. 

According to an official AT&T/LG data sheet, the phone will go on sale first through business channels, not consumer sales. Phonescoop.com pegs the release date as Dec. 7.

Google Music OneBox

Raksasa Internet Google melebarkan layanan online-nya dengan fasilitas baru pencarian musik, Pengguna bakal dimudahkan untuk menemukan, mendengarkan, sekaligus membeli lagu secara online. Dalam layanan baru ini, Google beraliansi dengan situs lola.com dan Myspace. Fasilitas pencarian musik tersebut dinamakan Music OneBox.
Hasil pencarian memungkinkan pengguna langsung memaikan seluruh lagu untuk memverifikasi apakah lagu itu memang yang pengguna cari.
pengguna yang ingin mencari lagu, cukup memasukan nama artis, judul, atau bagian lirik lagu. berbagai info mengenai lagu yang diinginkan bakal terpampang termasuk link menuju layanan musik dari pihak ketiga. Salah satu alasan google merilis layanan ini adalah kian banyaknya pencarian musik, sayangnya, layanan OneBox tersebut baru tersedia di Amerika Serikat.
Beberapa pihak pelaku industri musik menilai positif gebrakan Google.

IPv6 Segera Hadir

Para pengamat memprediksi dalam dua tahun ke depan, web akan kehabisan alamat IP. Itu sebabnya mereka menyarankan para pelaku bisnis harus segera meng- upgrade protocol internet mereka ke IPv6, yaitu versi terbaru protocol sistem pengalamatan internet yang meningkatkan ketersedian jumlah alamat web.

Sebuah survei yang dilakukan oleh Komisi Eropa menemukan bahwa beberapa perusahaan kini tengah bersiap untuk beralih dari protocol sistem pengalamatan sekarang yaitu IPv4 ke IPv6. Setiap website memiliki alamat IP unik yang diwakili oleh serangkaian nomor.
Bedanya, IPv4 memiliki sistem pengalamatan 32-bit, dengan itu, IPv4 dapat menciptakan sekitar 4.3 miliar alamat web yang unik. Sementara IPv6 memiliki sistem pengalamatan 128-bit, protocol IPv6 mampu lebih banyak alamat web dari IPv4.
Survei komisi eropa menyebutkan dari 610 lembaga pemeritahan, pendidikan dan organisasi di Eropa, Timur Tengah dan Asia hanya 17% yang telah meng-upgrade protocol mereke ke IPv6.

Facebook dengan Touch Screen

Facebook akhirnya menyediakan satu alamat untuk versi layanannya bagi pengguna smartphone berlayar sentuh di http://touch.facebook.com. Alamat sebelumnya, http://iphone.facebook.com dan http://x.facebook.com akan diarahkan ke alamat baru tersebut.

Upaya facebook tersebut untuk memberikan pengalaman yang sama bagi semua pengguna smartphone, tanpa membedakan platform yang digunakan. Meski belum tentu optimal pada semua perangkat pada saat ini, tampilan situs untuk versi layar sentuh lebih baik dan terstruktur daripada versi mobile standar.

Pengguna facebook yang mengakses dari smartphone berlayar sentuh diperkirakan bakal terus meningkat, seiring dengan hadirnya berbagai model smartphone berlayar sentuh dari berbagai vendor.
Paling tidak sejak popularitas iPhone menanjak, muncul Palm Pre dan sejumlah smartphone berplatform Android, belum termasuk smartphone dengan Windows Phone yang baru dirilis kemarin. Pengguna Facebook Mobile sendiri mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan dari 20 juta pengguna pada Januari, menjadi 65 juta pengguna pada saat ini.
